Type of Dice

Dice rolls in Modern-Conflict are based on a 12-sided die (commonly called a D12). The D12 is a common die used in many role-playing games and has the numbers 1 – 12 for possible results. There are several reasons the D12 was chosen as the standard die for Modern-Conflict:
-
A D12 is symmetrical and rolls well, but is easy to read from a distance.
-
D12 gives a good-sized range for rolled results on a single die.
-
You can use one type of die and get results for D2, D3, D4, D6 and D12.
Sometimes dice rolls will need to be modified and this is noted as D12 plus or minus a number, such as D12+1 or D12-1. Roll the dice and add or subtract the modifier to get the final result. A D12+2 would render results from 3 – 14. You may also be instructed to roll a number of dice in a single roll, which is written as 2D12, 3D12 and so on. Roll the number of dice indicated and add the scores together, so a 2D12 roll will produce results of 2 – 24. Another method sometimes used is to multiply the score of the dice roll by a number. Therefore, D12x3 means roll 1D12 and multiply the result by 3. Sometimes these methods can be combined, such as 2D12-1 giving a score of 1 – 23.
In some cases you may be asked to roll a die with a different number of sides than 12, such as D3, D4 or D6. These dice types can be simulated using a D12. Consult the following “Dice Number of Sides Conversion Table” to see the results for different die types that can be achieved with a D12.

One goal of this game system is to be able to use a single type of die, but players are welcome to invest in dice with different number of sides where appropriate.
