What is Open-Conflict?

Open-Conflict is a set of rules designed to provide a system for conducting combat simulations between fictional armies. The basic rules are a D12-based system that can be used for any time period from World War 2 to Modern era. However, the basic rules are not intended to be a historically accurate simulation for any specific time period.

The goal for Open-Conflict is to provide players with multiple genres to choose from that all use the same basic rules for play. Open-Conflict development is currently focused on the Modern-Conflict rules, which are a simulation of warfare in the Modern era. A Science Fiction genre supplement, Stellar-Conflict, is also under development, which will cover additional options available for Open-Conflict games set in the far future.

Army lists will be developed for all Open-Conflict genres and the lists are intended to allow miniatures from any manufacturer to be used to represent the armies in question. It is suggested that players review the army lists provided and choose models that are representative. For example armies that consist of United States WWII soldiers could use models from any manufacturer that produces WWII figures for the United States. It would not be representative to use African tribal models to represent WWII United States armies.

At some time in the future, miniatures specifically designed for the Open-Conflict game system may be produced, but one of the goals for this system is to allow the players the flexibility to use any miniatures that they already own.
